Caring for Your Crystal Wedding Hairpins after the Wedding

Once the festivities are over, you want to properly care for your crystal wedding hairpins and other items. The things you wore on your wedding day are symbols of your special event-you want to be sure they last for many years. Luckily, the lifetime of your valuables doesn't have to be left up to chance. By following three fundamental tips, you can easily extend the life of your bridal hair jewellery by decades.

Tip #1: How to Put Away Your Valuables Correctly

Believe it or not, you must follow a few rules even when storing your items. The first thing you need to do is get a separate location to divide it from the rest of your jewellery. If you throw it into your already occupied jewellery box, you run the risk of the crystal getting scratched up. That would be a tragedy. The best thing to do is to place the items inside a little bag where they will be protected. Also be sure not to expose the items to direct sunlight. The heat can cause the crystal to lose its lustre. And once a crystal loses its lustre, it can't be brought back.

Tip #2: How to Properly Clean Your Hairpins

This one is self-explanatory for the most part. If your crystal looks dirty, take a gentle cloth free of lint and wipe it clean. If the cloth is unsuccessful, you may need a brush instead. Use one with soft bristles - a gentle toothbrush will do. Take the brush and dip it in a solution of mild detergent and warm water. Be sure to avoid harsh chemicals and very hot water. Once the jewellery is clean, dry it using the cloth. To add a little shine back into the crystal pieces, you may use a recommended polishing cloth. It is not necessary to clean or polish your items at regular intervals. A simple rule is this: if they're dirty, clean them! Simply put, wipe and polish them when appropriate.

Tip #3: Consider the Quality

Obviously the higher quality your item is in the first place, the longer it will last. You can't reasonably expect imitation pearl to last quite as long as the real thing. That doesn't mean it shouldn't come close-but there's a reason why it's more valuable. So assuming you haven't purchased your hairpins yet, this is a good point to keep in mind.

Weddings are such a huge event in any person's life. There will be so many memorable moments, and plenty of keepsakes you'll want to protect. You'll have pictures, video, decorations, presents from loved ones, and so forth. But the items most treasured by ladies are usually the ones that were closest to them at the time-the things they wore.

If you follow these tips and treat your crystal wedding hairpins and other accessories well, it's something you can pass down from generation to generation.
